Can you lose alot of weight from riding a mountain bike 5 days a week?

As long as you follow a well balance healthy eating plan (I don't believe in diets) and get your heart rate up, then the answer is a big yes.
I've lost 8 kgs (or about 17.5pounds) in 8 wks which reduced my bodyfat % from 20 down to 12.5!!!

Try and put in about an hour a day, or more if you've got the time. eg I ride for 45 mins weekdays and 2hrs (50km) on Sundays. Source(s): Personal Trainer

You can, depending on how hard and how far you ride.
