What weight of mountain/hybrid bike is considered 'heavy' and what would be considered 'light'? Heavy: over 30 pounds if a hardtail or over 35 pounds if you have full suspension. Downhill bikes are heavy but they are overbuilt to take the abuse of that sport so seeing bikes that weigh 40 pounds is normal. Light: less than 25 pounds for a hardtail and less than 30 pounds for a full-suspension. 30 lbs. plus would be considered in the getting heavy class. 25 lbs. for a mountain bike with full suspension very light. full suspension being a front shock and rear travel also. Less weight equates into more money spent...... any mtb 30 lbs and over is heavy. a decent bike will be from 25-29lbs, and anything less than 25lbs is pretty light. Depends on what type of bike: 20lbs for a hard tail racing bike mid 20's for a race bike with full suspention 28-34 for a typical good all mountain bike 40+ for a downhill race bike Doesn't matter much for an around the town bike Don't spend too much money to save weight if you have weight to lose. Might as well take the weight from your body than pay a lot of money for an ultra light bike. My hardtail is 23 lbs. without the pedals. 30 lbs would be the line... anything under 30 lbs is considered light. Anything under 25 lbs is considered a great race bike. Anything over 30 is usually a trail bike but anything over 37 lbs is ususally a freeride or downhill bike. Heavy would be anyhting over 30-32 lbs. Light would be anythign under 30 lbs. 25 lbs is what my steel frame with a suspension fork weighs. It's all what you are used to I guess. If you are trying to loose weight, I have a diet plan that includes a Hacksaw, and screwdriver. I call it LIPPO |
