I'm going mountain biking in West Virginia? |
I'vr never been mountain biking before and I don't really plan on doing anything really hard my first time, I was just wondering what I need to do to prepare myself and my little Next bike for a nice, couple days of riding. I already ride all the time as my main mode of transportation, so I'm familiar with how to ride a bike and how much I can endure. I just wanted to know some little tricks or adjustments I should make to better prepare myself. Depends on where you're going. There are some rail-trail conversions that are easy and very scenic. Or, you can find tons of really fun singletrack. The difference will be it's more technically challenging to ride, with roots, rocks, loose sections, steep ups and downs. If you're doing singletrack, expect to go a lot slower than on the road. Like 5-10 mph at best, if you're working hard. When going downhill, don't let yourself faster than your ability to stop quickly - it's tempting and easy but around the next blind corner could be something very bad, and with speed and momentum and loose traction, you won't be able to stop. Take a camera. Where ya headed? New River Gorge is awesome. I hear Monongahela is great too. sounds like you dont need much! make sure you know where youre going and what your doing. Heve fun! |
