Which is better, road cycling or mountain biking? |
My son has to choose between them and if he chooses mountain biking, he'll have to sell his old road bike, which he loves. Is there a way to trasform a Felt road bike into a mountain bike? It is up to him but mtb racing well your off the road and you do get a better work out. mtb racing is very tough but road ridding is very competitive. There are alot of mtb riders that get contracts to become a road rider. eg; Rassmusen, Cadell Evans. sugest mtb, with selling the road bike well they are good for putting km into your legs(build your endurence) and cross training! Good luck on your journey! Source(s): Bike mechanic and store manager Personally, I prefer road biking. It is more geared toward family fun anyways. If your son has no love for riding on gravel as fast as possible, then he should probably keep his road bike. However, have you checked out the price ranges of bikes at the bike store??? Why on earth choose between them? Simply choose two 24 speed bikes instead of a single 99999999999 speed bike. That part of your question makes no sense whatsoever. Specifically, an inexpensive Sora grade road bike may make up the functional difference between it and a high end bike with just 2 parts: 105 or Ultegra 9 speed crankset, currently on sale at Nashbar Rol Wheels, currently on sale Specifically, the only two things you get with a mountain bike are accomodation for large tires and sport-centric suspension. There are three different types of mountain bike sports, and thus three different mountain bikes. Suspension is the difference. Oh, and yes, a road bike can go off road on Panaracer T-Serv tires in the largest size that will fit. Safety for both bike and rider depends on having the tire larger than the average rock it is expected to run over with grace. Sell his road bike that he loves?? When your son gets older and you need him, pray that he doesn't go as cheap on you as you are with him, and then ask you to sell something that you love. However, be aware that you are probably teaching him just that very thing. Maybe a different approach is needed. I'd say mountain biking, it's safer. I used to ride on the road, and everysingle time, I almost got run over but someone who didn't respet the bike lane. We do have a bike a lane, and it's in big bold letters BIKE LANE. However, there wasn't been one time some moron just doesn't care and thinks of it as part of the road. If I had ason, I'd find somewhere where could ride the bike everyday away from the road. change a Felt road bike into a mountain bike? don't do it... just go buy a proper mountain bike. don't ruin a good road bike. http://www.specialized.com |
