Do you need to buy special crank-sets for Scott mountain bikes? |
replacing cranksets on scott mountain bikes Check the size of your bottom bracket so you will make no mistake----among the great Cranksets are from RACE FACE, Shimano, Truvativ ( the Holzfeller series are just KILLERS! ) and FSA. Check them at these websites ( www.jensonusa.com, www.wheelworld.com, www.pricepoint.com and www.bikesdirect.com ). not necessarily but it is possible. most of them are specially designed for endurance but if you want to turn pro, you can always upgrade to a more lighter one. The type of crankset you use depends on what kind of bottom bracket you have. Higher-end cranksets will not fit on lower-end bottom brackets and vice versa. It should be pretty obvious when you compare your old crankset to your new crankset if they are going to work. If you are uncertain, go to a bike shop and ask them. Like some said, it depends on your bottom bracket, or bb shell (some are wider). As to whether it has to be a Scott USA special, no. Usually you just need to find one that fits the size. There are different 'standards' or 'interfaces' for bottom brackets: ISIS, Octaling, Integrated, bla bla bla. Some newer cranksets come with an integrated bottom bracket, so you're actually replacing all the stuff, which makes it easier. Shimano LX,HONE,Saint, XT, XTR, some Race Face and other cranks are this type. |
