Is a BMX style helmet ok for Mountain biking? |
I hate the torpedo looking helmets they have for mountain biking. Is the BMX style ok? The half mullet style like you see at the x-games. Yes it is completely fine, as has been mentioned the reason those "torpedo" style helmets are used is simply because they are more ventalated. In actual fact, the bucket style helmets worn by BMX riders offer a much higher degree of protection because they are A. Harder and designed to take large hits, and B. They cover more area of your head. I have used the bucket style helmets for some time now and find that the difference in how hot my head gets is more effected from how im riding than the helmet im wearing. So if you feel you would rather wear a bucket helmet then feel free to do so, just make sure it fits correctly and all like you would do with any helmet. Good luck bro I don't see why not. yeah- that would look tight, but if someone calls you a poser then just shake it off and keep on doin ur thing. they dont own u so do ur own thing. if everyone always does the same thing then the world'll never change. bytheway- those "torpedo" helmets do look kinda dumb Well the reason they arent seen often on mountain bikers, is because they get very hot. An x games type event, youre really only riding hard for a few minutes at a time, and when youre done you take the helmet off, where as trail riding, you might be out for 3 or 4 hours. But other then that, they are fine for mountain biking, but remember to buy a lighter colored helmet, because it will absorb less heat. its heavy If your helmet is a hardshell, it will last longer and be able to take a larger impact because it is designed to take multiple hits. A regular cycling helmet is designed to take one hit and then be replaced. If you crash alot a hardshell is more cost effective and it can be used at the skateboard park too. |
