Qintana Roo Kilo Triathlon Bike? |
I am mostly a mountain biker, but I need work on my cardio on a daily basis so I need to purchase a road bike (the track is right next to my house). They are selling a 2005 Quintana Roo Kilo triathlon bike for $650, what is your opinion on this bike? Also, the bike is 53 cm. Since I am 5' 10" (17 inch on a mountain bike), I should be riding a 55 - 56 cm. How much is that size diference going to affect me? Is it that much of a big deal when it comes to road bikes? I don't want to ride it professionally. I just want it as my workout bike, and for that price I think its a goot deal. Thank you Eric The QR isn't really a road bike, its a tri bike, suitable for time trials. Coming from a mountain bike background, you'll find riding position and muscle recruitment odd at first. Its a really nice one, but might be a tad small for you (I'm 5'8" and ride a 54 Cannondale). I'm not real familiar with how QR does their sizing, so it may not be the same. A test ride will tell. Too small, and you'll have trouble breathing properly and generating horsepower. Get yoself a one speed, fool. QRs are very respectable and nice tri bike but you need some more information on it. A 2005 for $650 sounds like a good deal as long as there are minimal scratches and dings and the bike has not been in any accidents. Also, you will want to know if the person selling rode the heck out of it and it has a ton of wear, or if components are relatively unused. The best advice I have for you is to go into a local bike store and get fitted for a bike and see what size is good for you. When your making an investment like this just for a bike, you need to make sure the sizing is correct. I would think a 53cm bike would be for someone around 5'6 so be careful its big enough. If you are interested in a road bike for around 650, specialized allez and low end felts are great bikes which you can get new for 650-700, and many stores even offer free lifetime tuneups, so this would be much cheaper. Both of these brands can be fitted with aerobars so you can ride in tris if you are interested, or you can use it as a road bike. |
