How fast do you bike? |
How fast do you bike? Top speeds? Average speeds, in relation to distance, and surface of ground? Type of bike you ride? How often you bike? None of my buddies bike - pretty much no one bikes in my city. I want something to compare against, for goal setting. On my heavy (35lb+) 21 speed mountain bike, I can only hit 49.0KM/H (30.4 Miles/H) (downhill, road), and for a 10 KM (6 Mile) ride, I can only manage a 22KM/H average (13.7 Miles/H) (road, hilly). Of course, I've only just started biking this season, so I'm a little off. How about you? Thanks! Hey, I am 31 years old and started riding agin about a year ago after a 15 year lay off. i have a specialized tarmac comp road bike (about 7.5 kg). When i first started again i could average around 25kmh for a 2 hour ride. Now i can probably average nearly 40kmh. i also started cruterium racing this year too, man what an eye opener. Those boys can really go! Great fun and excellent training too! i ride to work everday (about 17 km) and ride at least one day of the weekend so in total about 300km's a week. My fitness has improved out of sight in that time. As for fastest speeds, i have hit 90 kmh twice before (downhill), and on the flats have gone over 60 regularly. Keep riding, you'll be surprised how quickly your average speed creeps up!! I can ride around 145.8975mph i know.... i ride both a fisher marlin mtb and a trek 1000 road bike. i just got some aero bars this spring and i can easily avg 20-22 mph this eraly in the season. the most ive ridden in one day is 90 mi. and that was after a 2hr soccer game! i have also just recently started triathlons... I'm 17 and I just started to try to ride seriously within the past 4 mothes, I have a Huffy 15 speed Mountain Bike(Yes i know it is a piece of junk). Its got 26" x 1 1/4 slicks on it. I ride to school and back every day. A round trip is about 10 miles. I try riding around another 10miles in the afternoon around 7pm or 8pm. My average is somewhere between 15mph and 20mph. I believe this to be descent considering it is a really bad bike. I'm currently trying to get a road bike so I can get my average up and improve my riding experiance. A typical week i will probrably ride between 70-100 miles total. this is to joshua, you need to up grade. YOu are doing great for riding a crappy bike,, if you can ride that thing at those speeds, think what you could do on a GOOD bike, Road, I will tend towards 20 -24 mph (nobbly tyres)(40 + miles). XC I average between 15 - 18 mph (20 - 30 mile ride). Giant XTC 4 SE + Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tyres (45psi) + Shimano 520 SPDs. General advice. Keep fueled. Get a hydration pack and fill it full of an isotonic drink - SIS is good. + Energy bar and a pocket full of jelly babies. Luck I know this doesn't answer your questions, but here's some advice: Go buy some road tires (slicks) for your MTB. They're relatively cheap, lighter, can be run at higher inflations, and have less rolling resistance. You'll be amazed at how much faster you can go. REmember to keep them fully inflated. There's no reason that you souldn't be able to maintain 20 MPH for 30 minutes by the end of the summer if you ride regularly and change your tires with a good high pressure road slick. Go to a bike shop for some tire advice. |
