Should i give up my old, trusty bike? |
i bought this bike a long time ago, it's a small mountain bike. i don't know why i bought a mountain bike in the first place; i was probably impressed by the 21 speeds. anyways, i ride on streets. should i switch the bike? what is the best replacement? why would this bike be better? i ride in city but i like my knobby tires, it doesn't rain much here but when the streets are wet or have loose gravel i feel safer on a fast turn less flats too i think soft ride on a fat tire than skinny weight is very important consideration, that's the worst thing about mountain or fat tire bikes by your screen name i wonder how long is a long time ago?clean it up, wash it then oil it. if your not comfortable with it buy a new one, cycling is fun. keep it for a winter trainer, back up bike if the new bike is in the shop. It will make a fine commuter, "urban assault bike" type bike If it fits you well (you're comfortable pedaling it, doesn't make youre wrists or neck sore, etc) and is in good working order, no reason to get rid of it - unless you want to go a lot faster. One simple / relatively cheap thing you can do - take it to a bike shop, ask them to put "slicks" on it. These are city tires that don't have the knobby mountain bike tread. You will notice a dramatice speed and handling improvement. Should be $60 or so to get it done. If you are happy and comfortable with your bike, just keep up the maintenance and ride on! Maybe you could upgrade a few components (upper level deraileurs, brakes, levers, etc.). If you are unhappy and have the money for a new bike, then buy one. Ride safe! http://www.specialized.com |
