Need bike advice? |
Just looking to get started as I have not ridden in years. I know I do not need a mountain bike but besides that, I have no clue. Looking to ride a few miles a day at first but then work up to long distance. I live in a very flat city (except surrounding mountains). Also, not looking to enter into competitions, just ride for my health. I would avoid buying anything online. Performance Bike & Nashbar are both great companies, but you'd be better off going to your local bike shop and taking a few test rides. You'll also be able to talk to a knowledgeable sales person and they can help you decide what type of bike will be best for you. Also when you buy something locally, most bike shops offer a free 30 day tune-up to adjust shifters, brakes, etc. look at performance.com then go under bicycles. for around 500 bucks or so they have a great deal on a road bike with a flatbar handlebar and some accessories for city commuting and such.. you can always add some accessories to make the handlebars even more upright, which is what the flatbar is... its like mountain bike handlebars on a roadbike.. i have no connection to performance.com except i got their catalog today and was looking at road bikes for a friend.. get an old schwinn and ride it around walmart bikes suck *** through a garden hose I would go to a local bike shop and look around, talk to staff, and explain your needs. Perhaps you could get a commuter road bike, as suggested earlier, or even a hybrid/comfort bike. |
