Is this a good mountain bike choice?

I am looking into a good mountain bike. I am thinking about a Specialized HC XR. I have seen it for as low as $250 and normally about $330. Is it s good choice?

I am looking for a starter bike since it has been ages since I have rode a bike on a regular basis. It needs to be sturdy and around that price range, surely under $500.

Let me know if you know of a better option.

At that price it's a good deal. If you can get it for close to $250 enjoy it and smile all the way to the bank.

Depends. If you are staying mostly on smoother trails (like rain ruts and small boulders) then avoid full suspension. You really don't need it and it will absorb energy.

Instead, look at a hardtail model at the same price. You'll get better components, plus it'll be lighter and much more efficient with your energy.

Giant Rincon. Great bike for the money. From $400 to $430.

Im more into hardtails, but that is a nice full suspension.
