Can I put this fork on my f.s. mountain bike?

I would like to put an '06 Marzocchi Drop Off fork wich has 150 mm travel into my '06 Kona Kikapu. I know this supposed to be a cross country bike, but with the coil suspension (fox vanilla) its more like an all mountain anyway. I just want to add a little freeride aspect to it...I just want to make sure the fork will fit.

Yes, you can put the fork on the bike, but don't do it.

You have an xc frame....it's not made to handle the stresses of riding things that need an extra 2" of travel. The Kikapu is a 4" bike and you need to stick close to that or risk cracking a weld at the head tube. That, of course, means death. :o)

You can put a 5" fork (125mm-130mm) and be ok, but don't go with any longer legs. And no matter what fork you have on it, don't treat the Kikapu like it's a bike more than it is....you may end up with two or three pieces of frame that Kona won't warranty because you used a long fork. Seen it happen....

You want to check 3 measurements....
1 - Head tube - (Standard is 1 1/8 unless it more than 10 yrs old )

2 - I am not sure if I have the proper name for this one....Axle or Drop out length. ...
Some Beefy, Freeride bikes have different size (bigger) axles, to allow for stronger wheels.
You want to make sure your wheels will fit the new fork - unless you are OK buying new wheel too if needed.

3 - Length of stock fork and length of the new one -
When changing forks - to a higher travel fork than on the stock bike - it will change the geometry of the bike and change the handling.
-More travel will mean taller fork and less head tube angle and slower steering - more stability at higher speeds.
Less travel will mean shorter fork and steeper head tube angle and quicker steering. BEtter for Single track.
But if you stay under an inch either way you should be OK.
More than an inch bigger or smaller and you will probably notice a big change in the way the bike rides......It's risky....

--> Think about parking these cars at the mall - ANd parking is like riding a mtn bike on single track - sharp turns etc...
A Honda Civic.
Now think about parking an Extra long Pick up Truck.
The civic is easier because it has a shorter wheelbase.

By having a taller or shorter fork - you are lengthening/ shortening the wheelbase of your bike - hope you get the idea.

Check head tube diameter first, then be aware that this will modify your bike's geometry and change your riding position, your bike may become less effective with this fork. I think 120mm travel is a maximum for XC bikes.

So my answer is: probably no.

Do not put a 150mm fork on the Kikapu this will severely mess up the steering. This bike is designed for a 100mm fork, you could go with a 120mm, but no more. This is a XC bike not an all-mountain or free-ride bike.

it should fit fine the only thing i can think of that would be of any concern is if it is a used fork are the seals still good and how long is the steer tube?

Dunno

no Idea

sure, use a wrench

idk
