The "best" bike really means "best for you." $2K will buy you a really fine bike. At that price range, no brand is head and shoulders above the rest. It depends on how and where you want to use the bike. There is only one solution: test ride as many bikes as you can. The one that fits and feels best for the way you intend to use it is the best mountain bike on earth for YOU.

I'll agree with those who've said that it has a lot to do with what kind of rider you are. The way I'd spend two grand would probably be a lot different than the way you'll spend two grand. Be more specific.

the right bike depends on the type of rider you are. if you want to do dirt jumping the specialized p3 is a great choice. for cross country the fel Q620 is good for the money ($620) but probably not the type of bike you are looking for. If you want to spend around a grand an identiti is a good choice for dirt jumpers and light street riders. although identitis are only available in the UK and are around 900 or a 1000 dollars.

I'm not sure what your asking. Ther are plenty of MTB under $2000 on Earth. Frankly, I don't know of any available not on Earth.

Seriously, the best bike depends on your riding style, size, weight, local trails/ geography, etc, etc. too many variables to give you a straight answer other than "mine is best".

I suggest you go to several bike shops in your area with your budget and talk with the sales manager. Test ride several. You might even find out what I did....the best bike for me cost $940 plus tax.
