Looking for a cheap-ish new bike for me and my girlfriend?

Hi there! Thanks in advance for any answers! I'm not being too fussy, they're just for riding round for a few hours in the country, I'm 5'11'' so am going to get a 19" or 20" frame, my girlfriend is about 5'7" so am going to get her a 17" or 18" frame. I was all set to get a Apollo XC.26 17" Ladies Cross Country Mountain Bike for her and a Apollo XC.26 20" Mens Cross Country Mountain Bike for me, but the store doesn't do delivery of these and it's not convenient to collect. I then noticed that a popular online book/cd retailer now offers mountain bikes, and have free delivery at about 65% of the price for the Emmelle Active Ladies 18-speed Cycle Silver/Aqua 18" Frame for her and the Emmelle Active Gents 18-speed Cycle Silver/Black 20" Frame for me. The main thing stopping me just going ahead with the latter is that the former offer to "professionally assemble" the bike - I wondered if it was hard to assemble if I went with the latter cheaper option? Plus any other comments? Cheers!

Wal-mart too expensive. Local Garage Sale, if your lucky you get one with three wheels!

It is not hard to assemble a boxed bike. It is basically fit the the wheel or wheels, put on pedals, and straighten handle bars and connect brakes. Check it all, then off you go :-)
I am not sure about the bikes you listed but my advice would be do not get a full suspension bike because unless you spend a lot of money they are heavier and use cheap parts to cut the price down. Also they can be harder to pedal due to the suspension bobbing up and down

Have a look at the raleigh web site http://www.raleigh.co.uk
you can order on line and have it delivered to a shop who will assemble it for you and look after you if you have any problems. You can if you want, have them delivered to your home, but I strongly advise using the shop if you can.

It's really not too hard to build a bike. It should come with instructions anyway. Just make sure you get the pedals the right way round, check everythings tight and check the brakes BEFORE you need to use them.

Wal-Mart.
