Any help with my new bike?

I bought a brand-new Schwinn 21 speed mountain bike from Walmart. The only problem I have with it is the shifting. In certain gears, the chain rubs against the front delailer. I've made some adjustments myself, but there are still problems. Any pointers?

Google Sheldon Brown. He's dead now, but he still has a site on Harris's bike shop site and has tons (and I mean TONS) of useful articles. Pics, too. Better than trying to explain it here. It can be adjusted out.

Oh...a reminder...middle chainring won't cause rubbing if you limit your gears to the middle three gears on back. Large chainring, smallest three, smallest chainring, largest three back gears. In other words, stretching the chain from the largest chainring to the smallest cog not only causes the chain to rub, it'll cause undo wear on the chain.

throw it in the trash. wal-mart bikes are crap, cheap components cheap material cheap price. any bike that doesent work from the start is going to be nothing but problems. your far better off going to a bike shop and spending a little bit more on a quality bike. plus the shop is there to back you up if you do happen to have any problems.

You need to make sure you're adjusting the right screws. There is a screw for the high limit and one for the low limit. I would go to the tech section of the derailleur company to see which is which.
