I need a quaility mountian bike. any ideas? |
Hey everyone, I am looking to spend under $200 for a new mountian bike. I was looking at a Mongoose Sector but the guy at Dick's Sporting Goods said that Mongoose doesn't make a good mountain bike under $300. Now I am totaly clueless because I thought Mongoose made really good bikes. I am a ok biker but not to the point that I bike every where. Thanks For all your help. You are going to have a difficult time finding a quality bike for under $350. Your best bet is searching craigslist.org in your area for used bikes. Under $200.....ouch. Even used might be rough. Have you considered jogging? You should probably find a new sport until you can save the cash for biking. That's a tough budget. From experience I would stay away from Dick's Sporting Goods, they pretend to be a bike shop but they are very limited with knowledge and quality bikes. I bought a Forge Sawback 5xx Bicycle, http://www.forgebikes.com. I read about them on mtbr.com, these are people that "ride" bikes, the reviews are very positive. I was amazed with the quality and components for price, the parts alone are worth more than the bike. I'm very pleased with my Forge Bicycle and experience. Alternatively, check your local bike shop, perhaps they have an 06' they are willing to unload. Best of luck. Worked in a bike shop. Competitive road rider, have been mountain biking for over 20 years. Enjoy maintenance and building my bikes. I think you'll have a very hard time getting a real mountain bike new for under $200.You are probably looking at the Canadian Tire companies,where a real quality mountain bike will never be.Some good companies to look at are Norco,Specialized,Kona,Giant,G... many more.Now if you look at some websites you will find this unhelpful because they will be out of your price range.I suggest trying to find a used bike made by one of these companies.I found a guy that builds his own bikes,and got a nice GT for around $80!!! |
