Best mountian bike for 5 to 600 dollar range ? |
OK I think I have decided to spend around 600 on a mountain bike now the new issue is what bike ? I looked at the Cannondale F5 today and I liked it , from what I can tell is if you go with a name like Cannondale you get a great frame but shitty components Now if you go with a name like Treck., GT, specialized you get not as good of a frame but great components .. so the question is what's the better move ? I tend to think go with the better frame then as the components brake you can upgrade them ? any suggestions ? What makes the Cannondale so good over Specialized, GT, and Trek..? Think about it... Do you have a background in metal working..? Think about it - Upon what knowledge are you able to judge - from what someone else has told you..? I have broken Cannondales before and If they were not bike shop's sponsored bikes, I would NOT OWN ONE! I raced them for 4 years. Components will cost you more that double in the long run over just buying the bike built to the spec you WILL put it to. Cannondale and Litespeeds were part of an elitist fad during the late '90's - Both are not what they are "Cracked" up to be. Entry level is entry level - get a bike with Alivio or better on it and you won't be sorry. People dog Alivio because it's 8 speed and I'm here to tell you it's made the same way Deore is and is less tempermental to adjust because the tollerances aren't as tight. I think if you ride something beside the Cannondale, you'll find that EACH has it's own feel and look! I would encourage you to ride a Gary Fisher Wahoo Disc - For me, it's hard to sell a Trek next to these, and Trek owns Gary Fisher brand - so all the great customer support is passed along to the brand! Source(s): Bike Shop Manager - Top100 & Tennessee's Largest Trek Dealer call rick at rapid city cycle in st.catharines ontario...he is an expert actually and will tell you the best bike in ur price range...i called him and i don't even live in canada! the number is 905-684-9111 he will most likely answer the phone or maybe george will but ask for rick. IMO..giant and Kona give you the most bike for the price you pay I bought a Trek 6500 last year for around 600, and it's replacing my 10 yr old trek 830. I looked at the Cannondale and it didn't compare in rideability. I use mine for trail riding and commuting (100 miles a week) and other than getting rid of the stock tires I haven't had any problems with mine. I've even raced it, and if this one proves half as reliable and bulletproof as my last one, I'll be buying another in 9 years when I tire of this one. I should note that I've had 3 Trek's, a Raleigh, a few Schwinn's (the old, REAL Schwinns), Diamonback, and K2, and I keep coming back to the Trek's. |
