Best entry level road bike for a 22 year girl around $500? |
Hi, Im not a cyclist but I would like to be! Can anyone suggest a good entry level road bike which I can use on the various bike paths throughout Melbourne. I would like to start riding long distances on the weekends. I only want to spend around $500. I just want something that is smooth as my old mountain bike is so sluggish. Thanks! for $500 you can get a really nice used road bike instead of entry level Check your local bicycle shop for trade ins. Just getting started it would be better. It gives you better brakes, shifters, drivetrain and usually wheels. I find quite a few of my friends are disappointed with entry level bikes. The component mismatch gets irriatating. Good shifters / crummy crank, good forks lousy brakes. With a higher end used bike you seldom have the problems. Have fun as the search for the companion you will be spending hours or days on can be as fun as a ride. try several brands. http://giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/wo... Check if your local bike shop has it. congratulations on your decision to get involved in cycling... i've been riding for years and i can't describe the joy that i get from riding... while i understand you're focused on price, make sure you don't overlook proper fit and quality of your purchase... definitely look into used mid-range bike... try craig's list in your town.. you might be able to find one that you can try out before buying... if that's not possible and you want to buy new... go to several bike shops locally and find one that fits you and your budget... no matter what, ride... you can score a raliegh sport for 450 bux. itll get you stared , but if you are any thing like me you will out grow it and want a higher quality bike very quickly. go with what has already been stated . seach your lbs for used or last year models and see if you can score a deal. make sure as stated above that the bike fits properly. a $5000 bike will suck to ride if it dont fit right. good luck and happy riding. Like pockethotrod I think think that Giant make great bikes at entry level. Pop into your local bike shop and have a look around as most bikes aroung this price range are fairly similar and down to preferance. Best of luck . . . from a Pommy! |
