Calories burnt while riding downhill on a bike.? |
i was just wondering how many calories does a person burn when riding an intense downhill course on a mountain bike for an hour? Try borrowing or buying a heart rate monitor and set it up correctly to your body stats (age and weight are the main ones). Strap it on when you ride and it will tell you what your calorie burn was for that session. It should be reasonably close - most monitors use a formula based on your age, body weight and what zone your heart is working in. To increase the accuracy, you should do some form of ramp test to find your max heart rate, instead of relying on the 220 minus your age formula. That may not be too comfortable for a downhill guy - it is the type of testing that roadies and xc racers use to benchmark their training. Much pain and suffering in the saddle over a short period of time, usually hooked up to a computer on a trainer stand. try looking it up online..one time i looked it up..and there was like a whole chart saying how many calories were burnt doing different things.. well its like doing nothing at all, not much difference from sitting in the couch and waching tv......... except from the wind blowing! WHAT? On a mountain bike, you do a lot of excercise moving around the bike, so it's not like sitting doing nothing. I do now know how many calories, but you do get a nice workout. i doesn't matter how many, but i like road my bike for 2 hrs or more a lot of km |
