On off-road biking?

In general, are off-road bike trails really single track? I am thinking of trying to ride off-road for a change. (But not in the real rugged terrains for real mountain biking). Just wanting to get off the usual paved trails I usually ride. My only concern is that if the off-road trails are mostly single-track, I might hold riders behind me being new and inexperienced off-road. I do have a pretty sturdy mountain bike, by the way, and it will be okay for off-road riding. And I have a resource book for bike trails in my vicinity so I can find and try different trails. Just wondering how other riders might feel if the one in front of them is slow and inexperienced.

Hi, don't worry about it! There will probably be places where you can pull aside & let them pass. Most people on the trails are quite friendly & will appreciate this.

I just got back from riding & busted my visor & dented my helmet on a rock, so that's a good remider to ALWAYS wear a helmet. My thigh did not do so well, I have ice on it right now ;)

Cheers! happy riding
I have held people back and been held back. No one has ever been angry with me, nor I with any other rider. Pump up the tires and hit the trail. Have fun and a bit of sympathy for us old guys.
Any bike any trail, biking is best.
Dont worry about holding people up! Usually, it won't be a problem. Everybody has been slow at a point in his/her life.

Singletrack is very fun, and you should try it. If you feel concerned about doing it, go to some bike shops and see if they offer novice group rides, or riding clinics. They're a great place to learn off road techniques, know some trails and make new friends!
were not Neanderthals, everyone of us has been the "first time trail riders". If you think you are holding back a line then pull over, the trails are not that narrow. BTW what guy would not want to follow a girl. As long as we have a view of a nice tushy we are happy ;)
Remember to wear a helmet and get proper tires. Happy trails!
Go have fun, and go try some real singletrack trails sometime. We all had to start somewhere!

Just learn to expect an "On your left!" before you get passed. Yes, I said EXPECT! Seems like it's a bit of trail etiquette that has been forgotten by all the damn weekend warriors.

REAL cyclists will give an OYL every time because their cojones exist in the brutal pace they keep instead of how close they can buzz hikers.
Check out Bicycling.com for trails in your area. Not all off road trails are single track. There is usually a good description of the terrain with a rating for the skill level required to ride it. Get with your local bike shop too. They know all of the good trails. Also join a local off road bike club. They usually have club rides for every skill level.
