Do they make bikes for giants? |
My youngest son (age 17) has this evening said that he'd like to get into cycling a lot more seriously than he has done.....he normally cycles around on a mountain bike that was originally bought for my husband. To be honest it's not the best size for him (my son) as he's so tall.....but it's served for playing around on at times. He's 6'4" & has an inside leg measurement of 37.5" (95cm) I will go & have him fitted properly in a bike shop, but sitting here & discussing it, we were just wondering if bikes were made to "off the peg" dimensions so to speak for such tall guys, or would they have to be custom made........I realise it鈥檚 not just a question of frame size, but what is the largest bike frame size out there? Hell, I hope he stops growing pretty soon...... A riding buddy of mine is 6'4" and he rides a 63cm Klein road bike (I'm 6'3" and ride a 60 cm). I'm pretty sure that he can get a mountain or road bike that will fit. You are doing the right thing by taking him to get fitted at a bike shop. Still, he's not too tall to buy most standard production bikes from a bike shop. However, if he gets a few inches taller later on, you might have to go with a custom build then. For now, he'll be fine at a bike shop. P.S. The largest frame that I've seen was a 69 cm. There are larger out there. Many pro basketball players ride bikes. Theirs are usually custom built- usually cost about the same as many production bikes contrary to popular belief. Sure. Here's a few. Read the sizing chart at the bottom of each...... http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/moto... http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/wind... He probably needs something like a 58 - 60 cm frame (Trek goes up to a 62 cm frame). As a starting point you can check the websites for the main makers (e.g. Trek, Felt, Specialized, Look etc) - most of them will have a table that should show you roughly what size you would need in that make. After that, it would be worth getting properly measured at a bike shop (here I go again). ya definately, a lot of brands make them |
