I have a 18 speed mountain bike that I ride ocassionally and I need help?

My son and his friend went riding one day and upon coming back to the house my son's friend who was riding my bike was unable to stop safely coming into our garage and smacked the handle bars. He broke my shifter and cable to the left handle bar. I bought this bike 12 years ago it is a Huffy and I have been to local bike shops thinking that they have a generic shifter and cable but the ones that I have seen look like
junk. I would like to know if their is a Huffy parts for bicycles anywhere near central Ohio? My bike looks new and I would like to make it look new again. Maybe a website?

Being you want to repair this bike contact Huffy at,

Huffy Bicycle Company
6551 Centerville Business Pkwy
Centerville, Ohio 45459

(800) 872-2453 customer service
(937) 865-5470 customer service/ parts

check your local pawn shops, craigalist.com for older bikes like yours, maybe even ebay..

From what i know about huffy, there junk, i would suggest spending out and buying a high quality norco mountain bike.

Get real cheap handlebars from Blue Sky Cycling (www.blueskycycling.com). As for your shifters and cables---UPGRADE! Get to 21 or 24 speed by totally changing your front/rear derrailleur, hubs, freewheel or cassettes---all available at EBAY (www.ebay.com ----click sporting goods and you'll see "Mountain Bikes & Parts" ) also check Price Point (www.pricepoint.com) Cambria Bikes ( www.cambriabikes.com ) for gears for your upgrades----

don't advertise dude, most of the Norcos are junk too! nowhere near as junky as huffy's but still.......

that's the thing- either get a pawn shop shifter or go to a decent shop and I won't be surprised if you find a proper shifter that costs you more than your bike!
try eBay, I guess

Any local shop has access to the kind of shifter you have. They are trying to discourage the repair due to the age and quality of the bike.

I have a solution. Purchase the shifter and ask them to install it. Here is where to get it:

http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/S...

These shifters are friction type which means that they can be used for just about any system. The pair is under $11.00. I suggest having both replaced at the same time.

In Central Ohio, take the bike to Bike Source -- any of their 3 locations in Columbus, or to Baer Wheels on N. High Street.
The best bike mechanic I have ever met is at Bicycle Warehouse in Dublin. They are all in the Yellow Pages.

They have the parts to fit, or you can have them fix it.

You won't be able to install this yourself even if you find the part. Contact a local bike shop. It is possible they can just lock the bike in the middle front sprocket and make the bike a 6 speed for you. The parts and labor may exceed the value of the bike.
