What do you know about Vuelta wheelsets? |
i was looking for a new set of wheels and i stumbled across these Vuelta wheels on ebay. they are advertised as disc compatible and i really love the way they are laced and they are really affordable. ive heard that 24 spokes take to much stress from disc brakes and 32 3 cross is best. ill have hydraulic discs by the way. i was looking at the Mavic crossmax SLR wheels as an alternative, but im not crazy about spending over $500 for a new wheelset, im not that hardcore. http://cgi.ebay.com/vuelta-xrp-disc-rim-... http://cgi.ebay.com/nib-vuelta-excalibur... I had a pair of training wheels from vuelta for my road bike. They were 28 spoke, double butted and basically bombproof. not sure of the adv/disadvantage of the hydraulic brakes, but they do make solid wheelsets and have been around for a long time. Those wheels are cheap, cheap, CHEAP!!! Rolf Dietrich and Keith Bontrager learned a long time ago that PAIRED SPOKING does NOT work for mountain bike wheels due to the shock the must endure... Yeah, it makes a trick looking wheel, but it won't last and hence the ebay pages! They are on this bike as you can see - this was more than 5 years ago... http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~yrode/image... Mavic, on the other hand has revamped it's line for 2007, and we've been having nothing but problems with them as well... we have a Rocky Mountain that has them on it out of the box and the spokes pop out of the hub all the time on test rides. The ST's that I sold someone have an RA# and are going back to Mavic for the same thing! This is two different Mavic wheels - both with the new hub design... I think they need to quit trying so hard! Certainly there are better (and more expensive) wheelsets out there so you have to decide what is right for your budget. |
