Physics Help.... pressure and areas and such...?

A person who weighs 634 N is riding a 96-N mountain bike. Suppose the entire weight of the rider plus bike is supported equally by the two tires. If the gauge pressure in each tire is 6.50E5 Pa, what is the area of contact between each tire and the ground?

Pressure = Force/Area.

Solving for Area, Area = Force/Pressure

Total force per tire = 634+96 N = 730N/2= 365 N

Area = 365N / 6.5x10^5 Pa = .561x10^-6 m^2
about 2 milli-gigga-waddles
P = F/A

A = F/P

= 730/(6.5*10^5)

= 1.123 cm^2 total contact area

so the contact area would be half of that for each tyre

= 0.562 cm^2
