Need help buying a new frame? |
i found these two frames on ebay. please read them and tell me which one you would buy and why. i am looking for something for XC with around 4-5 inches of travel, disc compatible, with an air shock. if you know wnywere else to get a descent DS frame with that criteria, please let me know. i dont want to spend anymore than $500. im only a begginner so i dont need top of the line, not that i can afford it anyway.... http://cgi.ebay.com/2004-giant-vt-2-w-sp... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayisapi.dll?vie... `You're a "beginner" and somehow you've convinced yourself that you need a 5-inch travel full suspension bike with an air shock? You also don't want to spend more than $500, but is that on the frame or the whole bike? You WILL NOT get a decent full suspension mountain bike for $500, end of story. Even if the frame was only $100, you're looking at $250 for a closeout fork, another $300 for a drivetrain, $100 for a handlebar & stem, $200 for a set of wheels, $100 for tires, and $200 more for pedals, seatpost, seat, grips, cables & housing. Not to mention about $60 per hour in labor to get it built, and if you ARE a beginner, you won't be able to build it properly. Perhaps you could be more realistic with your expectations. I'd go with the Giant if only gbecause it's more proven. I think it's a nice frame for all around. To answer your question directly, I don't think you will see much of a difference with either frame. Giant has more of a reputation, but many people like their Raleighs. Looks like the Giant has a better rear shock. I'll hold off on my other comments... |
