Why are beach cruisers difficult to ride uphill? |
My multi-speed mountain bike was easy to ride uphill. I got this single-speed beach cruiser and its so difficult to ride uphill? No gears, you've got one speed to make it to the top Heavy frame, 40+ pounds of aluminum or steel Flat pedals, not the most efficient for pedal stroke At least you can wear flip flops with them! Just out of interest, what does a beach cruiser look like?? It seems you Americans have some strange bikes, with pedal brakes and 'Peewee Herman' style bikes still being made AND SOLD.???? EDIT: Why the thumbs down Guys? - I'm curious thats all! Why do you think muti-speed bike are made? Because they don't have low gears... you usually stand up when riding uphill you cant really do that on a cruiser and they only have 1 gear which is usually 3 or 4 and they are heavier too cause you only got one speed there bubba. 1. heavy 2. lack of gearing 3. Frame geometry doesn't lend itself to climbing 4. Soft steel flexes and absorbs pedaling power. ----- Only me: not a silly question at all. Can't describe it, but all you need to do is ride the boardwalk by Newport Beach. You'll understand instantly. Its like a '57 Chevy. Makes no logical sense in the modern world, but everyone understands its 'cool'. |
