I dont have Freewheel remover neither can i buy it from vicinity... is there any other tool i can use ??? |
I am repairing the rear wheel of my mountain bike... I have opened every thing ... but I dont find any tool to open freewheel... I am sitting in a country where its difficult to find the freewheel opener... and buying online takes time and money... even if i spend money i dont have time to spend... Is there any other general purpose tool or thing that i can use as free wheel opener...I dont want to destroy free wheel or the hub... ANY HELP OR IDEA WILL BE VERY HELPFULL FOR ME>............. Bicycle tools are VERY specific to the task they perform. Your only option is to try taking a flat screwdriver & hammer to the freewheel, but it WILL chew things up. If you do not want to destroy your hub or freewheel, you DO NOT have any other feasible choice but to get the correct tools. You will need the right freewheel/lockring tool for your bike, as well as a chain whip to hold the cassette while you loosen the lockring. Either that, or you take it to a shop. Sorry. I always used the freewheel tool and a chain whip. I have made the chain whip in the past with wood and old chain, but the freewheel tool, there may be no substitute. I don't think you really want to open the freewheel as there are about 100 loose balls inside along with 2 pawls and springs. the balls are on both sides of the free wheel and you must be real careful when you open it that you don't loose them all over the floor. the best way for the inexperienced is to spray a good lube like Tri-flow and let it work into the inside. the tools you need are a free wheel holding devise and pin spanner to open it once you have removed it from the wheel. and you need a freewheel remover tool and a vice to remove it from the wheel. My advise is not to remove it. bicycle store owner and mechanic You can make a tool to fit it if you know what you are doing. Otherwise you are going to have to use the tool because if you do not then you will likley mess up or break the freewheel. |
