What are some outdoor hobbies where I can meet new people in an area?

I was thinking about joining the mountain bike group. Any other suggestions? I guess it doesnt have to be outside, I was just on that kick right now.

The main thing is to pick an activity that you would enjoy doing even if there is no one to meet. Otherwise you will wind up going only once to lots of different things, and never getting a chance to meet anybody.

If you like mountain biking, great, go for it. But go there with the idea that you are planning *mountain biking,* not that you are planning to meet your next boyfriend. If you make friends with the people there, one of them might turn out to be an interesting prospect, of course. But it is even more likely that you will make friends with someone else entirely who has a brother or friend that would be just perfect for you. So go there to have fun and to make friends, but don't be too obvious about looking. It's not a bar.

Like moutain biking, a lot of outdoor stuff involves sports. In my area, there is a ski club that has good trips (not all of which involve skiing) and is a great way to meet people. Running groups are good too, if running is your thing. But there are non-sports activities as well that you might want to consider. How about Habitat for Humanity, where you help build houses for poor people (an expert shows you what to do)? Or work for a political candidate you support.

When you meet people in a charity or activity that you believe in, you already have something in common with the people there, and--even better--you have a natural topic of conversation to get things started. And don't overlook church or synagogue. Yes, I know, it sounds like an idea your parents would have. But if religion is at all important to you (even theoretically), churches are really making an effort to attract young people these days. If you can find one with a young singles group, it is worth going. And again, it is one item on the checklist, right? At least a guy you meet there will have one problem out of the way.

And remember: there are 3 billion men on the planet. All you need is one good one. Good luck!!
Sports: Softball, basketball, tennis, and tons of others.
If it doesn't have to be outdoors, joining a bowling league of people of about your own age would be good. Roller/ice skating, going when there are 'festival in the park' type things. Tennis, swimming, hiking, a softball league, etc. You could also take classes that interest you at the community college - people taking the same classes would probably share some of your interests. You could also join a book club, a writer's group, etc.
