MTB Tune Up? |
How much would it normally cost to get a mountain bike tuned up? It depends a lot on the condition of your bike. A routing tune-up may only run you 30 bucks, but it pretty much only check the condition of your brakes, pedals, derailleurs, and chain. If you pay for a full overhaul, expect to pay upwards of 100 bucks, but then they will check and re-lube your hubs and bottom bracket. Of course if anything is wrong and you need to replace it, add the cost of any parts. Depends on what you need. It's usually close to a shop's hourly rate, and can run $30 to $75 and up if you need something major. You can also learn to do it yourself, but it will take a LOT more time and effort than a trip to the shop. The tools aren't cheap, either, but you'll save a bundle in minor repairs. I think the most I've ever payed is 65 for a comprehensive. It's true a lot of tuning does require special tools, but to adjust your brakes and der's all you need is a screwdriver, a 5mm allen key and the patience to take the time to get it right. I suggest you go out and find a basic bike maintenance book, I have Bicycle Repair Manual by Chris Sidwells. It will help you out with the little stuff, and save you some money in the long run(of your life) it really depend how "pro" the shop is. generally, between $25-50. they can get expensive, which is why i learned to tune bikes myself. its really quite easy, and i even make extra cash fixing stuff for friends and nieghbors |
