Could i get some help? |
I have a two year old mountain bike, and I do all the proper maintainence on it to keep it in good condition. But lately when I ride it, the crankshaft and the rear wheel make a sporadic clicking and knocking noise. The chain has not slipped at all and the cogs don't show any signs of wear. The rear and front derailuers are adjusted properly also. If you can help me, please do! Your sprockets can be worn even though they don't look like it. Possibly your chain is stretched or may have some seized links. If you can lift your chain off your front sprocket higher than the teeth it is wornout. Could also be your bearings are needing a clean and re-grease or have some corrosion or marks on them, making them sound grumbly. 2 years is a while for the same sprocket if you are doing a decent amount of riding. It doesn't take much to make a bike develop mystery noises. Sometimes they are amplified by the hollowness of your frame. You could have a bad bearing. You have to pull the free wheel. When ever you take out your bearings its best to replace them and repack with bearing grease. Most libraries carry books on bike maintenance which will tell you how to do it. The hardest part is taking off the free wheel. And you will get your hands greasy. |
