California Scooter Legality!!! What the hell?!?

Okay so I've been looking for a motorized scooter on ebay (call me a dork if you will). and I have found some pretty good deals, but then the majority of them say "cannot sell to any california residence" or some **** like that. what is the deal???
Why are scooter that are good for the environment illegal? is this just another way the government figured out that they could control an aspect of our lives???
What the sh!t?

A 2 stroke is a no go in CA, emissions.

some scooter motors have been dubbed by C.A. not healthy for the enviroment and majority of the Ebay scooters are from china and use the unhealthy motors. Check Goped.com
i know majority of their scooters are california legal and its made in the USA

Because most of the scooters on Ebay are Chinese crap and aren't suppose to be here in the first place. Vespa is a brand of scooter that is allowed in CA.

What IS legal in california? Not a whole lot...

California has some STRICT anti smog regulations for their vehicles. In fact you would be lucky to get ANY two stroke vehicle over 50cc (if that) on the road. I wold start looking at 4 stroke vehicles.

Quick lesson on the difference between 2 and 4 strokes. a two stroke engine uses fuel with it's gas ( think weed whacker ) because it uses the fuel and oil mix to lubricate everything. Great power for a small box, but again your burning oil which has A LOT of carbon. You'll sometimes see cars with blue exhaust. that's because their gaskets are shot and oil is gettign into the combustion area. A 4 stroke engine seperates oil and gas. so you burn cleaner. Some say it doesn't have as much power, but it's getting really close.

going back even 15 years or more...all moitorbike/car repair manuals have a section on california..lots of strict emission controles/exsaust gas resurculation systems....if they were strict then,be even more so now.

Most of the chinese (I bet you dollars to donuts the scooter in question was a lifan or made in china) bikes can't run in California.

California is very strict with its emissions so some manufactures flip the bird to California and say "Well screw you then California, we won't sell our bikes in your state. We are not going to pay for the strict condititons to sell our bikes in California.." That's why California is blackballed.

California basically sucks when it comes to the quality of the roads and taxation.

If you see my helmet cam video below you'll see how awful the freeway quality is in california. Many bikers have lawsuits against the state of California right now because they have crashed due to the failing roads.

Since California spends a lot on welfare, food stamps, free section 8 housing, and has very high state taxes to support free health care for illegal aliens etc....they can't afford to fix the dang roads.

Look at the helmet cam videos and check out how awful it is. The reason you can't bring a scooter like that to california is the wacko Democrats that love trees more than human life itself.

Now the real estate values in california have gone down and its literally TERRIFYING what is happening to california roads. Since they don't have as big a tax base to pay for all the free government hand outs and programs,,they are sacrificing infrastructure like roads.

It's literally putting bikers lives at risk of death.

Many of the so called "deals" you find on EBay for scooters are in fact Chinese imports that do not meet DOT standards for the U.S., and California has even tougher standards to meet on vehicle emissions then the rest of the country. Most of the Chinese scooters are still 2-stroke engines, and the 2-strokes are dirtier emission wise then a 4-stroke engine. California has been trying to do away with 2-stroke engines for 30 years.

If you want a good scooter/moped, save up a little more and go to a dealer who will do the paperwork for you. This way you know that the bike will meet the standards of the area you live in, and you'll have a place to get parts and service if you need it.
