Where can you legally ride a motorized scooter in Illinois? |
I just won one in a school raffle, but I don't know where I can ride it. I've heard they're not street legal, but I'm not sure about this. Are they allowed on sidewalks? Streets? Please note that this is just in the Illinois area. And if you give a link, make sure it has the information needed, and no confusing pages where I have to click a series of different links to find what I'm looking for! It should be perfectly legal if the engine is smaller than a 50cc to ride on city streets, just not highways. Check with your local DMV first. DMV stands for Department of Motor Vehicles in case you did not know. Most states, if moped is under 50cc, requires a drivers license and a helmet. And all is good. Just be careful out there. No one looks for the little guy on the bike. They are ILLEGAL period. Only can ride them on private property or off-road in the country, DO NOT ride them on sidewalks or city streets. Your best bet would be to go into your local DMV and simply ask. I find it hard to believe that you can't ride a Scooter on the streets. However, every state has their own regulations and laws. Better safe than sorry, so get it from the source, go into DMV or your local Police Station. in all states, unless a scooter is 50cc or over, it is ILLEGAL to ride on any city/county/state road and/or sidewalks. it's subject to getting impounded if caught. just google illinois dmv, and to motorcycle laws. it will be as plain as day. dude, u gonna have to do some of the legwork. dont expect us to do it all for u. |
