Vespa or Car?

I will get my drivers license in about four months. i just got my first job andhave about 600 in my band account. my parents arent going to but me a car, but my dad will match however much money i raise. i was thinking lately that i would rather have a mototcycle or scooter than a car. i would rather save loads of money on fuel and i would rather get a new vehicle for five thousand rather than a crappy old car for the same price.
does anybody own a motor scooter or vespa?
im looking for advantages and disadvantages.
i just figure that i could use it to get around town ( i live in a small town thats relatively safe to drive in ) and borrow my family car if i need it, weather is bad, etc.

thanks!

also - would it be worth it to pursue a used scooter?

im a girl, by the way

Vespas are very expensive

you can find a good used car for $4,000

98 Acura CL
98 Ford Mustang V6
98 Honda Accord or Civic
98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder
98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy
98-00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

it would be a wiser choice to get both license's but buy the scooter its cheaper on gas.the down side of most scooters are the do not get up to highway speed, and you will get rained on. the upside is they are fun to drive and if you have a girl she has to hold on to you. try to stay away from preowned cycles they might have problems with them if you can find one, a lot of people are buying scooters now for the gas saving you get. good luck with your choice.

You are in a dilemma. It is better to have a car and then get a second vehicle. I have a motorcycle and it's great on nice days, I like to ride in the rain and bad weather too, but sometimes it is just not convenient. I'm not a big scooter guy. When I was 15 I had a moped, which was awesome when I was 15, but there are a number of sayings about mopeds, ......fun to ride until your friends see you on one
Scooters are good for gas mileage, but the only way that you're getting any chicks on a scooter is with a vespa, which will cost you as much as a solid motorcycle. Good luck

Seen you hv both license, also there's a family car for you to drive when you needed it, get a vespa instead of scooter.
Myself as a driver and rider, it's would be much wiser to own a bike rather than a car unless you've started your own family(Married w children). Bike won't cost you that much for maintaining and the petrol incurred, car is good only for rainy and bad weather, also the loan, financing and tons of backfire follows up....
If you choosing bikes, Vespa 200cc to 250cc with autotranmission will be the ideal type, petrol consumption really not high and the wheel is much bigger and better than scooter, the country I lived in already saw too many accident involved with scooter either approaching a turn, holes on the road and braking system wise.
Afterall, pls don't compare car to bike, as car definitately better due to sizes, vision and comfortably. BUT, biker feel will be a total different world with car.....
Hope my points for the Vespa helps and best luck for your choice.
Ooops......pls don't get a 2nd hand Vespa, majority problematic issue in the engine.....get a new Vespa, it'll worth every cent of your's(At least you know u r e one who spoilt the engine rather than other's) heehee......
