"L" Class motor scooter License?

With spring on the way I am currently looking to get my Scooter out of the garage. I currently own a schwinn sport lx and I am wondering what I need to do to legally drive it. I understand that to ride anything under 150cc's an "L" class license is required. Also, anything over 150cc's an "M" Class is required. My schwinn is 149cc's so an "L" class is needed. What are the steps I need to take to get my L class license? How long will I need to keep my permit before I get the actual license? And, what tests will I need to take?

No, you do NOT need an "M" class. In the state of Illinois you need an "L" class license to operate any motorcycle under 150cc's and with anything OVER 150cc's you need an "M" class.
