edit, Darth; There was something about Zebra that intrigued me, but the vocals got to me. I really liked The Four Horsemen.
edit, Darth; I'm glad you liked them. The Morning After Girls are becoming one of my favourites. Yeah check this band out they are great..
They are a band called Outl4w..
They have just been around for 2-3 years now.. and are only 15/16 years old in average.
They are a great new band from the very small uk PUNK scene.
Its only been 2 years.. But they have been voted Distorted Magazines (the biggest punk mag) BEST BAND OF THE YEAR..
http://www.myspace.com/outl4wtv
I think they are going to go very big soon.. So here is your chance to know em before they go all big ;)
This is their best song so far -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzfP_avb... Death

Also check out their album "Symbolic" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_%2...
Dark Tranquillity
very very popular in scandinavia, they have a variety of heavy and melodic.
This is "Therein": http://youtube.com/watch?v=WVk5OfJ_D_o
Check out all their songs!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_tranqu...
Kalmah
Melodic Death Metal band (not for everyone). Unknown band that introduced me to the genre
This is "Defeat": http://youtube.com/watch?v=63O3Nbvyc-U
I have much much more but these three are worthy of being checked out THANKS!!! Hi Darth...
WISHBONE ASH...one of the sadly underrated bands ever

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVUx4zxd7...
JOE SATRIANI..one of the musicians I most admire and the one who makes me happy just by watching him have so much fun performing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGNgcRwKW...
GINO VANNELLI...one of my favorite singers ever, he is a great composer too, he is jazz and pop at the same time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgxwZN49f...

Pelican

And their song "City of Echoes"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUgOzLbPG...
I like The Four Horsemen and Zebra, that's some good stuff.
The Replacements are great. Savoy Brown - "Raw Sienna" Classic '70s funk & groove
Average White Band - "AWB" Ditto above but with horns
Oingo Boingo "Good for Your Soul", "Boi-Ngo", and "Alive" (I sold the second CD from Alive, but the first is GREAT!) Rockin' music - great lyrics from Danny Elfman.
Madonna "Ray of Light" For those who like the Pink Floyd space music / electronica vibe, this album is great. And just for reference purposes, I own Madonna's 1st 3 albums - her 2nd especially is good, but that's been it for me.
And a tour de force:
Johnny Clegg & Savuka - got turned on to them when they were the warm-up band for Steve Winwood in the late '80s. Some of their themes are somewhat dated in light of the end of South Africa's apartheid (they are a South African band that combines blacks and whites) but the music is so great it still *really* works. Possibly comparable to Peter Gabriel's 'international' stuff.
Albums: "Third World Child", "Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World", "Shadow Man", and "In my African Dream" - a greatest hits compilation. Hey Darth!
HA! I love that someone mentioned Nash The Slash and Bop(HArvey)! Cool!
Another great question... I was familiar with your four examples, but I'm glad you posted The Four Horseman because I had trouble finding their songs recently and the youtube stuff reminded me of the few tunes I heard while living on the West Coast in the early 90's... "Bad Motor Scooter" is a great song and was already in my rotation the last few years... my brother-in-law introduced me to Zebra in the 80's... he also introduced me to a Boston bar band legend called the Lyres: if you can find their CD "On Fyre"... or a greatest hits compilation, their studio stuff is best... biggest hit was "Help You Ann". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_laHvVFpb...
lousy audio on that one
A group that I think is fantastic but overlooked is Cymande
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymande
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQKsKnIj4...
Here are a few more I want to mention:
The Blasters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF2GF8khe...
Five Man Electrical Band:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxa_I_GGe...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Q7cP3ij...
They are Canadian, and here are three other Canadian bands that I think deserve more global recognition:
Chilliwack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MifVhq4KI...
April Wine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9Ky1kQHo...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hIdnkxtI...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lx1WWsk_...
.... notice the first video is from the same recording place as Rush's "Moving Pictures... Le Studio, in Morin Heights, Quebec...
and lastly, one of my favorite Canadian bands: The Tragically Hip...
http://www.thehip.com/
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheTragicall...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K43ZriYuX...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO0B23_gB...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc8fXaTqm... i wasn't going to answer this but then a cd came on by a singer/songwriter that i really enjoy, it's probably not what you had in mind, but it's gordon lightfoot. i don't know what ever happened to him but i've always loved his words and singing so thought i'd mention it..... Sam Roberts - The Gate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWrzXJkQJ... The Royal Guardsman
Snoopy and the Red Baron Sock Hop Arousel, there a post-punk band from canada. i actually don't think there even together anymore but i am not sure. the only info on them is at www.bullfrogmusic.com. the site describes them as sounding like gang of four and they kind of do. great band anyway and the girl has a good voice. i picked up there one and only EP. Over the Rhine - They've been around since the late 80s, but I didn't discover them until about five years ago. Hard to describe their sound, since it's evolved over the years - Amazon has labeled them adult alternative, alt-country, contemporary folk, and indie. Here's an oldie from them - Happy With Myself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIpzIkwVg...
Ego Likeness - just discovered this band last year. Goth/darkwave on Dancing Ferret Records. A live version of 16 Miles:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0stKJJ64f...
Kidneythieves - Singer Free Dominguez rocks! Good angry music. Zerospace (this is the edited version):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q5e7d7GK...
Candypants - Lisa Jenio makes naughty lyrics sound so cute... even got my husband listening to them, and that's a near impossible feat. No clips on Youtube, so here's their Myspace:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus... Thunder - originally discovered by Duran Duran's Andy Taylor:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunder_(ba...
Low Life In High Places
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMvBnd4nH...
Love Walked In (single edit - produced by Andy Taylor)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szGtmXrWa...
In A Broken Dream (hard to find cover ballad - Greatest Hits only)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK4exdaa2...
Somebody Get Me A Spin Doctor (live 1995)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pC6caGGE...
Jon Butcher - one of many good Boston rockers with a blues background.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Butcher
No YouTube link, but his best rock songs include Life Takes A Life (1984), Stop! (1985!), Wishes (1987), Goodbye Saving Grace (1987), Holy War (1987), Send Me Somebody (1989), and his work with his electric blues band called Barefoot Servants (1993).
The Brandos - popularity killed in 1989 with the death of IRS Records, very unjustly, after their first album Honor Among Thieves. Dave Kincaid is a great songwriter.
Gettysburg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYN6KFN0l...
Best of the rest: The Solution, Tell Her That I Love Her, Gunfire At Midnight, Contibution, Honor Among Thieves
Tommy Tutone - the two-album wonders!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqUPApCUt... toad the wet sprocket is the most underrated, talented band that no one talks about.
another is shooting star, an early eighties (primarily) band from kansas city that featured violin as a lead instrument on many tracks.
and my hats off to the person who mentioned thunder. "laughing on judgment day" is a great album, from around 92. I think you'll enjoy these picks. Of course since I've been hear, I'm constantly blathering about these bands.
Band of Susans
