Can I hitch a small scooter to my Ford Focus? |
I have a 2001 Ford Focus, and I want to be able to tow my small motor scooter. From what I can find, I can only use a class I hitch with the car, and a max tongue weight of 100lbs. There are some aluminium scooter hitches, which, combined with the weight of the scooter, would come in at under 200 lbs (therefore okay on a class I hitch). My question is, if I am the only person in the car with the scooter hitched on the back, amd I really doing any major damage if I'm 100 lbs over the tongue weight? From what I'm reading on the spec of the car, I'm nowhere near the gross axle weight rating of the car, so would it really be an issue? Okay, the tongue weight is a consideration, but considering that you can purchase and have installed a Class I reciever hitch (tongue weight rated 200lbs.) for your Focus, you should be fine. The link on the bottom will get you to the 3 door Focus. It all should work out fine. no its not a problem . you can go much heavier and not have a problem. g Your expectations are unrealistic! Not only around 100 lbs. over tongue weight, the scooter carrier will also be extended back from the receiver about a foot. A very small trailer (perhaps a U-Haul) would be a better way to transport. You can get a class 1 hitch and a small utility trailer. Harbor Freight Tools has a few decent ones |
