I have the opportunity to buy a new Schwinn Campus Scooter for $699 and I was wondering if it was worth it. I am aware of the cheap chinese branded scooters such as Geely and Sicilian, but with the name Schwinn and the retail values of the Schwinn's around $1500, I was wondering if the Schwinn's were a more reliable machine. Have owned a Geely/Jalon X8 with the 139QMB 49cc 4-stroke engine since August 2005. It is used almost daily, and other than routine maintenance and installing a NGK C7HSA spark plug, the only significant issues so far have been turn signal related.

Top speed is a little over 30 mph (indicated) on level ground . . slower on hills. Fuel mileage is around 90-100 mpg. Speedometer reads in mph but odometer registers kilometers. Change engine (15W40) and rear gearbox (80W90) oil at 50k, 200k, 500k, and 1,000k to flush the suspended metal particles . . Wal-Mart oil works fine. |
