Scooters??? please answer!?

i bougt a 1977 scooter with petals on it. what does the petal do if there is a motor on it? does it give it more power or what?

it does look like a bike. but can i pedal it instead of using the motor

If you so choose to you could ride it just like a bike with the petals, but if you wanted a bicycle, you should have bought a bicycle. When you petal the bike and pull in a lever on the handle bars, you engage the bike engine and now have power(such as it is).

Remember a bike this old must have a pre-mix fuel. Meaning you must mix two stoke oil(and only two stoke oil) with the gasoline, for proper lubrication.
Enjoy and
Ride Safe

If by pedals you mean that you can peddle it like a bicycle, you have bought a "Moped" .. The pedals are used to help get the small motor started from a dead stop.. The bad news is any moped that is 30 years old will most likely only have peddle power most of the time..

Pedals allow you to pedal the scooter like a bike if you don't want to (or cant) use the motor.

It is also how you start the motor as well. Pedal for a running start, then let clutch loose.

That is the kick starter. If your scooter dint turn on with the key ignition use the petal to turn the scooter on but cant do both at the same time.
