I have a mobility scooter , why does it slow down on travelling down hills?

I always use it from fully charged. I use it on roads max speed is 8mph(please could someone tell me how to increase this!!). Now i live on a hill so go down hill everywhere.The scooter at times on a slope will slow for a bit then speed up again. Even if I have travelled 16 miles it will still do it on downhill slopes.Please could someone explain what is happening? The increase in speed would be welcome Thanks Will

Because it has a restrictor which stops it from going a certain speed.

I don't know anything about mobility scooters so I probably shouldn't answer this question, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway. I'm thinking that it's a safety feature to keep you from going too fast, which could cause someone to lose control, or unbalance the scooter and make it tip. Like when I'm walking, if I come to a steep hill, I'll automatically slow my pace so I don't gain too much momentum and fall on my face...lol.

The reason for the mobility scooter slowing down is the gears obviously when going down hill you don't want it rolling too fast as not to stop or loss control. As for increasing the speed it is possible but you need a special hand held computer to change the settings and they aren't cheap.
