Do people who have mobility scooters/buggies have to be insured? |
Is it a legal requirement? Does anyone know what kind of insurance they are meant to have? Insurance is not required for those mobility scooter that are meant for elderly and disabled people. The actual item may be covered under a special rider or their homeowners policy but as far as for liability, it is not required where I live. No, I'm sure they don't. Well I hope not anyway because my Nan uses one and she doesn't have any! no they dont ..... some of them should though ;oD If it is something that is used to assist the hanicapped the liability will extend off of a homeowners or renters policy in most cases No they dont, but I wish they did. They are a menace, poodling along the middle of the road at 2 mph. No i don't think so, Ive just bought one and Ive never heard anyone talk of insurance ?. Anwer is NO i have a scooter i year now ,but drive it with care at 4mph. on footpath and find out if can be used on the road . In most states, a mobility scooter is treated the same as a wheel chair, and a wheel chair is under the same laws a pedestrian would follow. So, no, there there is no requirement for license or insurance on them. There used to be a registration requirement at one time (not everywhere), but not for many years. They are not motor vehicles. They are insured under home-owner and tenant policies. |
