How does a four stroke motor work...?


is there a separate spot for the oil to go in a four stroke motor? or do you have to mix the oil and gas?
if so, what percentage of oil shhould be mixed with the gas and/or can i buy the mixture?

a fourstroke engine does not use a mixture of gas and oil. the gas goes in one spot and the oil in another, like a car would.

Only a 2-cycle engine needs a gas-oil mixture. A 4-cycle engine does NOT burn oil, nor does it need oil mixed with the fuel. Rather, it has a separate reservoir that pumps oil throughout the engine to lubricate the moving parts, but it does not burn the oil at all.

The main differences between 4 and 2 cycle engines is that a 2-cycle has fewer moving parts since it has no valves and has no crankcase, thus making it smaller. A 4-cycle has intake and exhaust valves that open with each combustion cycle, a camshaft, and a crankcase for oil. A 2-cycle has no crankcase and thus requires the oil to be mixed with the fuel to provide lubrication to the cylinder walls, crankshaft, and connecting rod.

The 4 cycles are intake, compression, power, and exhaust. In intake, the cylinder moves down, drawing in air-fuel mixture. In compression, the cylinder moves up, compressing the air and fuel. In power, the spark plug ignites the mixture, pressing the cylinder down. In exhaust, the cylinder moves up and pushes out the burnt gases. The cycles repeat again. The spark plug ignites every 2 revolutions. (*Note: This is for an engine with a carburetor. Those with fuel injection work a little differently.)

A 2-cycle works in an alternate matter. In place of valves, there are 2 open holes, one at the top for exhaust and one at the bottom for fuel intake. Now, a 2-cycle engine performs twice as much work as a 4-cycle. During the intake stroke, it is performing the power stroke as well. During the compression stroke, it is also performing the exhaust stroke. Each stroke is performing 2 cycles at a time, hence the greater power output. The spark plug ignites in each revolution.

Each engine has its ups and downs. A 2-cycle is good for having a lot of power from a small engine, has no oil to change, and is cheaper than a 4-cycle, but it is more polluting since its lubricant is burned with the fuel and some of its fuel is not burned. A 4-cycle is more fuel efficient and cleaner operating, but has oil to change out, has more moving parts, and is a little more costly to maintain.

2 stroke, u mix the oil and gas. 4 stroke, u add it seperately to its own tank.
