How to stop thinking about food (revisited)? |
A couple weeks before school dances (prom is coming up) i try on my dress to see what i need to do to make it fit best. this time i saw that i needed to diet a little bit, maybe lose a couple pounds nothing drastic) before the dance (in 3 weeks). so i started watching what i ate, and suddenly i am obsessing about food! seriously, every second of the day i am thinking about eating, not eating, foods i'm craving, and so forth. i have actually ended up eating worse than i usually do! i have no clue how to correct this. suddenly i feel bad about myself eating, which makes me think about exercising obsessively, then i obsess about food even more!! i can't return the dress and it doesn't look that bad on me, but i am in a serious downward spiral. i try to take my mind off it by doing things where i'm not around food like bike riding, mini-golfing, going to the beach, and watching movies, but somehow all my thoughts are preoccupied with food!! what do i do?? As soon as you get it in your head that you are going to limit yourself in some way, its all you can think about. Isn't that how it usually goes? you want what you can't have. This advice is coming from someone who has spent a life time dieting, worrying about how i look and wasting alot of money trying to be "perfect" Don't tell yourself that you CAN'T have this or that. Get into the mindset that everything is okay for you ..in moderation. If you need to drop a few pounds drink atleast 2L of water a day (water is the key to successful weightloss), tell your self that you are allowed little treats, but leave them as that--occaisonal treats. If you want to get you mind off food then get out of the mindset that you are on a "diet" just tell yourself that from now till prom you are going to make an effort to eat healthy. I.e, cutting out unnessessary additives like mayo, butter, high fat salad dressings ect. all those add up like you wouldn't believe. I can promise you that if you cut out eating high calorie high fat snacks and desserts on a daily basis..instead of just once or twice a week..that you will notice a difference. It sounds like you lead a pretty active lifestyle..good for you! keep it up. Maybe add in a 30 min walk around your neighbourhood. I cannot stress enough the toll that crash dieting takes on your body. i wish that when i was your age someone would have smacked me on the head when i was living off cucumbers and celery the week before my graduation. This is alot of mumbo jumbo packed into one long paragraph. I realize how hard it is to take someones word for it on a subject like this, just get the whole "diet" mindset out of your head. That is what is preoccuping you with food. If you cut out 500 calories a day for a week from your normal intake (a can or two or pop..a bag of chips, a choc. bar, one less serving of rice/bread/potatoes at supper) thats one lb a week. If you dbl that plus walk every night..thats maybe even 2.5 or 3 a week. You dont' need to do anything drastic. I hope this helped. If you wanna chat about it please feel free to email me. Im a fountain of advice on this subject:) Source(s): my life (p.s im a nurse) don't laugh but the week before my prom i wore plastic wrap around my tummy. i would run with it and sleep with it. i snack ALOT and i would crunch on ice when i wanted a snack. i just needed something to chew on i guess. but the plastic wrap worked for me. This is something that happens to a lot of people when they diet:( All you can do is stay BUSY! Try to not give up all the food you love, rather, try to work it in with your healthy diet. You are less likely to obsess if you give yourself some wiggle room. Example??? Eat the cheeseburger, give up the fries. Eat cheese on your sandwich, but leave the mayo off. Changing your eating habit is more about moderation then anything else... Take a deep breathe... Try some of those new diet bars that are supposed to make you NOT want food. One thing that will help you lose weight: diet pills. I was one of those who did not believe in them until I tried it. And I tried a few. The best product I found on the market is made with pure hoodia and it works great!
