We have a 50 cc motor scooter. What helmet should my 14 year kid wear for it?

Get a DOT approved skull bucket... a good helmet does not have to be super expensive either, do a search and you will find a lot of motorcycle 'equipment' shops, at least one of them will have good quality helmets on sale at very good prices... motorcyclesuperstore.com is one I saw with a sale just the other day... shop and get a GOOD helmet...

One item that should never be compromised!!

An approved full face motorcycle helmet. You can even get seriously injured on a little scooter. I had a friend die when she accidentally fell off the back of a motorcycle (riding double) going at very low speed - like less than 10 mph - (they hit a small patch of gravel) - she was wearing a shorty helmet and the back of the helmet severed her spinal cord. Only a regular full-face helmet is truly safe.

All helmets sold in the US have to meet the Department of Transportation specifications. More expensive does not necessarily equal better. Get one that fits properly and isn't excessively heavy and it will serve him well.

A snell or DOT approved one for the street or motocross depending on where it will be ridden. After all, it is there brain that you are protecting so don't chinse on a helmet.

A motorcycle helmet. If you are in the US get a new DOT approved helmet. Old/used helmets don't give the same protection as new ones.

full face motocross, make sure it covers chin and a face guard to protect from air debris, looks cool also

A bike helmet, but as bad as this sounds most people (like me) don't wear them and I have hit over 20mph
