How do I insist to my friend I want a good price for my scooter, or I will KEEP it?

One of my friends owned a scooter he sold to me for about $600, two years ago, when he moved to Indonesia.
I didn't get one block down the road the first time I drove it when I got a flat tyre.
On changing the tyre I also learned the brakes and bearings needed replacing, as well a new battery and a back tyre, too. I put lots of money into this bike,even before I got to use it .
Now he text messages me that he will come back, soon, and that he has a wife and a kid now and he needs that bike, and he wants to buy his bike back, but will pay only $400 for it, he insists and says that is a "fair deal".
I don't want to sound cold blooded, but he sold me a real turkey two years ago, that I had to immediately repair, even before I could use it. I like friends and I don't want to deprive someone of a nice scooter if he needs it, but enough is enough.. I feel that it is either the money I ask, or no bike...
But, of course, he probably won't be friends with me anymore. What gives?

i mean it has been 2 years so i guess it's not worth 600 anymore. then agian it's your now and you can ask for as much as you want or if you even sell it at all.

Tell him how much money you have put into the scooter. Tell him that if he wants the scooter, then he will have to compensate you fairly for it, since you could not even use it until you did repairs on it. Your only other choice is to tell him tht you really need it, and can not sell it to him at this time. Tell him that you will look around to see if you can find him a good deal on another scooter.

ummm...I don't think I would give it to him for that price either.

1. Never do business with friends . . if you wish to remain friends.
2. In a free market, any commodity is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it.

Tell him how much you want. if he cannot pay that much. then it is not for sale.
