Are electric scooters legal? |
Several of our neighbours kids have had electric scooters for Christmas, they are whizzing up and down our road. One of them hit my car yesterday and damaged the door. The parent is apologetic but says they are not insured!should they be using them on the road at all? Should I report them to the police Laws vary from place to place. Whether they are street legal or not where you live, that parent is responsible for the actions of that child and liable for the damage to your car. They are illegal on the public sidewalks and streets. You should report them. If that doesn't work, beat em with a broom. .any vehicle with an engine a a public road is illegal without an mot or insurance. as for the police matter you could report it but unless you have proof of the child committing the offence the police are likely to take little action. myself i would try to sort it out with the parents and see if you can come to some sort arrangement. if all else fails you could threaten them with legal action They should be insured and the driver should have a helmet, or drive it in a field with permission of course |
