Vitenam war movie from late 80s or early 90s?

There was a Vietnam war movie from the late 80s or early 90s where a couple of guys adopted/saved two Vietnamese kids. One of the kids they nicknamed "Scooter" after Phil Rizzuto, the late Yankees shortstop and announcer. I would like to know the name of that movie.

did it have Tom Hanks in it ? cuz if so i think i may have seen it but sorry i don't know the name.
