What is a good bike to use for racing for a 7 year old? |
my little bro is getting into racing and i want to get him off the piece of crap he's been riding. he doesnt need anything expensive or fancy, maybe a 6 speed or something simple. he's justing starting out so i have to "train" him a lot. i was looking at getting him a kids specialized since i have a Spec Epic, so i though matching bikes would be a cool thing. he rides a 20", let me know if there any other good bike out there. i dont want to spend more than $300. i think the specialized was $270. right now he's got a purple Rallye (not Raleigh!) that barely works and weighs almost as much as my bike, lol. gosh i love purple. at the age of 7 though the most important thing is having fun...actually it still is for me at 33. He probably wont understand the signifigance of having a Specialized and probalby could care less that you ride an Epic. Just make sure when your "training" him, that you train him how to have fun and respect riders and trails....oh and how to fix simple things like flats, chain suck, etc... if he racing bmx a real good place 2 look would danscomp.com. they have bikes that are real good and semi cheap. a good bike 2 race would be redline. real goood racing bikes. hope you and your bro does good. good luck. If this is for mt biking, then weight is not much of a factor since mt biking is mostly downhill. Don't let your little brother ride until you provide him with a helmet, gloves and elbow and knee pads. You ought to look into buying a used bike as $300 is a lot of money to spend on a bike your little brother is going to outgrow in a couple of years. |
