My daughter borrowed her brothers bike to go to a friends house. While she was in side for just a few minutes some one came by and grabbed the bike right out of her front yard! We rode around and actually found the kid (12 yrs old) that stole the bike, what should we have done about it? I mean we talked to him he was obvisously scared. We tried to ask where he lived but he refused to tell us. We did call the police out there and he talked to the kid but asked if we wanted to file charges, should we have? I mean it is a kid (my daughter is 12) I guess if you don't the next time it could be my car. I don't know. I guess I'm asking...What would you have done?
You done right. I doubt he'll be stealing any bikes or cars. If he was that scared its probably because he has parents that try to teach him better. It was probably a spur of the moment thing. Even if you had filed charges, there would have been very little done to the child. Most likely, he would have simply been released to the custody of his parents. The upside to this? At least then his parents would have been aware of what he had done and been able to discipline him appropriately. You should have pressed charges. get a dog
