In this day and age of "overprotecting" and "overparenting" why are kids more bratty and disrespectful? |
Dear god! I read those posts made by 12 year olds about sex and parties and drinking and about how their parents are stupid. I hear 5 year olds tell their moms, "You can't tell me what to do! I hate you!" But today, parents overprotect and overparent their kids. They make sure the car seats have EPS foam. They make sure they are involved in soccer, in t-ball, in gymnastics. They set up playdates. They don't let them go off on their bikes to play. So why are kids getting worse with each generation? We're raising generations of disrespectful, unappreciative, self-centered brats. Why is this happening? And what do we as parents have to do for kids to show respect? In my opinion...It is the change in parenting. Parents don't discipline anymore, they reason instead. They are trying to be their kid's best friend instead of the parent. Kids have enough friends, they need rules and limits. Seems each generation loses more and more respect for others. Maybe if we went back to actually disciplining them instead of talking it out like they are adults, then maybe they would learn. Treat them like kids and not your equal. i WAS RAISED OL SKOOL AND i GOT WHOOPINS IN MISSISSIPPI BUT i THANK MY MOM 4 THAT NOW BECAUSE I HAVE 3 KIDS AND I REFUSE TO LET THEM DISRESPECT ME I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN "SPARE THE ROD SPOIL THE CHILD" You have to teach your kids to be respectful of others, of authority, of other's property, and of themselves. Its because people don't spank their kids when they need it. Plain and simple. All the parents these days do not want to discipline their children by spanking, when I was a kid I got whooped with a switch if I was wrong. And believe me, it only took getting whooped with a switch a few times to know not to do anything wrong. I think parents need to step up and act like the parent, not the child. I think the prob is that parents are trying to hard to their kids friend, I have always said I am a parent first then a friend. I am sorry but you cant not be a friend to a teenager when you are a adult that doesnt work and to many parents try to fit in and be hip with there kids. Ok so this is my pet peeve lol I cant stand a mom who trys to compete with her daughter in looks and clothes. As a parent of a almost 18 yr old boy and a uck scary 15 yr old girl I have always told my kids I am your parent first and formost and will do what is best for you hate me know but when you get older you will thank me. Also I think to many parents just let there kids run like the wind to give them space or just dont want to deal with them. Ok so what I am trying to say is that alot of parents know dont want their kids to dislike them and try to appease them but letting them do or have what ever they want and that is crap You are the parent and the kid will thank you when you older yea it bites when you have to deal with your kid and their fit omg parenting being stressful unheard of omg lol. Well anywas that is my take on it. No consequences. |
