My kids can't keep themselves occupied!!! Help!?

We have four kids ages 7 (boy), 6 (girl), 3 (girl), and 1 (boy). Our 6 year old and 1 year old have no problem finding things to play with or do - they can keep themselves entertained. But our 7 and 3 year old can't seem to figure out what to do with themselves. It's not like they don't have any toys - their rooms are filled with them, they have art supplies, books, a huge playground and trampoline in the back yard, bikes, scooters all kinds of things. My 1 year old will run outside and get a bike and ride it for a long time and my 7 and 3 year old will just stand there and watch. I just don't know what to do to get them to entertain themselves. Any suggestions?

Dont step in. You have given them plenty of things to keep busy and the other two have modeled how to do it. When they get bored, they will find something to do. TV has ruined creativity in many children. In time if they are given the chances. they will become imaginative and very creative on their own. Hence... Why buy toys when you have a drawer full of plastic stuff and a cupboard full of pots and pans? Dont you find that kids make things out of the strangest things.. An old board makes a good ramp etc... Just give them time and allow them to develop. If you run to their aide, they wont figure it out.

Try playing something with them.Also, start putting a 500 piece puzzle together and have them help.They can work on it.Act like you are dying to see it finished.This will get them enthused a little.
Give them an ultimatum. If they are continuously complaining that they are bored don't go out and buy them stuff because it will become an endless cycle. What my parents used to do when I sad that was hand me a broom and a dust pan and told me to go sweep or they made me get the trash out of all the rooms and empty it outside, etc (be creative). Sooner than later I learned to make the best out of what I had and I even took up a sport. It works trust me.
Helping raise a 5 year old.
Put a dust rag in their hands and tell them to get to work.
